Lovely Lady Dressed in Blue

Here we are almost halfway through the lovely month of May.

At morning Mass, the priest spoke about a retired bishop moving out of state to be closer to his family. Change is hard for all involved. He recalled one of the bishop’s quotes when priests asked him his opinion on this or that happening in the Church, he’d reply, “It will be okay, it’s a big church. There’s room enough for all, it’s a big church.”

I thought about that quote and thought to myself, that is a very wise man. The Catholic Church is a big enough church to fit all and encompass all. During the past few days, I have visited the area parishes to see their May Mary. I realized each is different, yet we are all so much the same. We honor Mary, especially during the month of May. In church or in our homes we all have different kinds of May alters but they all share one thing in common, we honor and pray with Mary asking her to take our requests to her son Jesus. Mary the Queen Mother.

When I was a little girl, my godmother, my Aunt Gloria, gave me a holy card with this prayer on it, and even to today it holds a special place in my heart.

Lovely Lady Dressed in Blue

Lovely Lady dressed in blue ——-
Teach me how to pray!
God was just your little boy,
Tell me what to say!

Did you lift Him up, sometimes,
Gently on your knee?
Did you sing to Him the way
Mother does to me?

Did you hold His hand at night?
Did you ever try
Telling stories of the world?
O! And did He cry?

Do you really think He cares
If I tell Him things ——-
Little things that happen? And
Do the Angels’ wings

Make a noise? And can He hear
Me if I speak low?
Does He understand me now?
Tell me ——-for you know.

Lovely Lady dressed in blue ——-
Teach me how to pray!
God was just your little boy,
And you know the way.
