Veronica Wipes Jesus’ Face

Psalm 51 v 10

Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

In our Catholic faith, we honor St. Veronica, a woman who met Jesus on the way to the Cross. Veronica was brave enough to push her way past the soliders and offer her veil to wipe the sweaty, bleeding face of Jesus. Her reward was the image of Jesus on her veil.

Veronica must have had a pure heart and a steadfast spirit within her. Pure heart means to have a heart free from sin. That is what David is asking for. A steadfast spirit is to be able to be strong enough to resist sin and stay pure of heart, not to repeat the sins. Lord, I pray to be as strong as Veronica and be pure of heart with a steadfast spirit. Teach me to be aware of others around me who need an encouraging word and a helping hand.
