Monday Fourth Week of Advent

Isaiah 60:1-2 For behold, darkness will cover the earth, and deep darkness the peoples; But the LORD will rise upon you, And His glory will appear upon you.

Isaiah’s writing read if he could have been penned this weekend with all the sad, terrible news of police officers being killed around our nation. Accepting, helping and working together must start with each one of us. A simple smile or a greeting when you see a police officer, thinking of them as a mother, father, brother, sister, daughter or son of someone can go a long way. I realize it is easy for me to speak these words as a white, over 50 white, woman but that is who I am and work to understand how others feel and what they have encountered in life. Maybe it is standing up for a person in authority if the conversation turns negative at the water cooler or teaching our children to respect police officers. I believe it is in small ways that we can shine the light of Jesus to those around us.

Lord, Jesus, teach me and lead me to see ways to shine your light in our darken world.
